Welcome (and beware) — it's a special edition of Friday Flavors: Halloween Flavors. From Starbucks’ spooky new drink to teal-painted pumpkins, below are some interesting reads from the week:
It's what (scary people, probably) have all been waiting for: the Frappula Frappuccino, a "vampire-inspired" coffee drink available up to Nov. 1. It includes mocha sauce and whipped cream at the base with Starbucks' white chocolate mocha Frappuccino. And no, that's not blood, but raspberry syrup. I will not try this because I've seen enough horror movies.
Food allergies and Halloween don't mix well, but there's an answer — painting pumpkins teal. This signifies that a house has non-food items to give out to trick-or-treaters.
U.S. News and World Report's Eat + Run notes that banning candy altogether isn't going to do that.
"The Office" featured many a food prank from Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) on co-worker Dwight K. Schrute (Rainn Wilson), and The Daily Meal has a ranking in the spirit of Halloween. My personal favorite matches the list's No. 1: the vending machine, when Jim replaces vending machine items with Dwight's personal effects and office supplies. The true classic is the stapler in Jell-O, of course.
