Reading the plethora of fun food news each week is just one of the perks of editing Food Dive. From colorful burgers to the KFC customer who called rat, below are interesting reads from the week.
Paint with all the colors of the burger
Burger King is really taking a page from SpongeBob Squarepants' "Pretty Patties" episode — a burger with red buns and red cheese is going to be for sale come July 3 in Japan. Let’s not forget the chain’s black burger; an updated version of that will arrive there in August.

Avocado fans are in luck if this pans out: the fruit is playing a part in the development of a drug many are hopefull will combat blood cancer.
Oh, Nutella. The famed hazelnut spread is facing criticism from the French ecology minister, Ségolène Royal, for its palm oil use. Nutella producer Ferrero, naturally, fired back with a statement on its palm oil sustainability efforts. Royal tweeted since her statement: "A thousand apologies for the controversy over Nutella."
Modern Farmer explores whether the Muscovy duck is considered kosher (spoiler alert: it depends who you ask).
Did you heard the one about the KFC rat?
Did KFC actually serve 25-year-old Devorise Dixon, of California, a deep-fried rat? Dixon’s claim has gone unfounded by the chain. "Our chicken tenders often vary in size and shape, and we currently have no evidence to support this allegation," KFC told ABC News. KFC added that Dixon is not adhering to an investigation, nor letting an outside lab examine the item, which it has offered to pay for. This does have Food Dive wondering, however, what food shapes make their way through the supply chain.
