Dive Insight:
"Palm oil is by far the highest yielding lipid crop on the planet and it is hard to imagine a global industrial food production without access to a high-yielding lipid source," said Jakob Thøisen, CEO, Palsgaard. "But it also calls for a responsible and sustainable approach to palm oil sourcing and manufacturing."
Sustainable practices are key when it comes to the world's most used cooking oil. Global edible oil supplies will increase 0.2 million tons in 2015-2016, compared with 3.6 million tons the previous year, Mistry said. Total demand will expand by 4.5 million tons from 2.5 million tons a year earlier. As a result, world stocks will fall in Indonesia and Malaysia, top palm oil producing countries, and in leading consumer markets in India and China.
