Dive Brief:
- A newly formed company, Inclusion Technologies LLC, has purchased the assets of AnaCon Foods, which manufactured nut-free snacks for retail, as well as ingredients to replace nuts in food processing.
- AnaCon, which closed in December 2013, made its products in a nut-free plant in Atchison, KS. That 30,000 square-foot plant is included in the purchase by Inclusion Technologies.
- Inclusion Technologies plans to resume manufacturing at the plant within days, making nut-free ingredients and custom products for other food manufacturers.
Dive Insight:
The reopening of the plant is good news for Atchison, the tiny Kansas town best known as the birthplace of Amelia Earhart. But it's not necessarily good news for consumers who loved such AnaCon's snack brands as Wheat Nuts. Statements from Inclusion Technologies imply that the new owners are interested in the ingredients business, but not necessarily in selling directly to consumers.
