Hidden Valley Ranch goes dark
Hidden Valley Ranch is taking on a haunted hue ahead of Halloween for the brand's first-ever seasonal product.
Spooky Ranch is a dark twist on Hidden Valley's Original Ranch, featuring a deep black color made from fruit juice and cocoa powder. The ranch, available exclusively at Walmart, is packaged in a glow-in-the-dark bottle and has no artificial flavors.
"Spooky Ranch takes everything fans love about Original Ranch and adds a little Halloween magic," Stacy Stokes, vice president of marketing of Hidden Valley Ranch, said in a statement.
Hidden Valley is choosing Halloween for its first seasonal product as consumer spending and participation in holiday activities continues to increase, representing a significant opportunity for brands to capture consumer engagement through limited-time offerings.
Consumers are forecast to spend a record $13.5 billion this year on Halloween-related items, according to the National Retail Foundation, including $4.1 billion on candy. More people have taken part in the holiday since the pandemic, with 74% of consumers planning to participate this year compared to 68% in 2019.

V8 musters up energy for electrolytes

V8 is getting into the electrolyte craze with its latest innovation.
The 93-year-old brand is launching V8 Energy with Electrolytes, a line that pairs steady energy with refreshing hydration. The offering is available in cans and on-the-go drink mix packets in three flavors: lemon lime, strawberry passion fruit and white peach.
V8 Energy with Electrolytes is available at Amazon and Walmart.com and will be rolling out to stores nationwide in 2027.
“Consumers are asking for beverages that do more, and V8 Energy with Electrolytes brings together steady energy, added electrolytes, and refreshing flavors,” Gary Mazur, vice president of everyday pantry essentials at The Campbell's Company, said in an email. “It strengthens the V8 Energy brand in the better-for-you energy drink space while giving consumers something that works harder for them.”
For much of its history, V8 has been synonymous with its iconic red vegetable juice. Now, as the brand looks to reach younger consumers and increase its consumption among existing shoppers, V8 is stepping up its pace of innovation by entering buzzier beverage categories.
The New Jersey company launched its first major extension in 2011 with V8 Energy, an offering that has steadily grown since its launch. Campbell’s expanded V8’s shelf-stable juice lineup four years later with vegetable and fruit juice beverages made with ingredients like yellow carrots, sweet potatoes, pineapples and spinach.
The decision to bring electrolytes to V8 comes as a growing number of consumers seek out the minerals in their food and drinks. The market for electrolytes globally was $40 billion in 2025, according to data from Fortune Business Insights, and is expected to more than double by 2034.
Several big food companies have joined Campbell’s in adding electrolytes to products, including Nestlé’s century-old Gerber line earlier this month.

Ocean Spray positions cranberry as the next pumpkin spice

Ocean Spray is pushing cranberry as the flavor of the fall season with a lineup of new innovations, saying that pumpkin spice "has had its moment."
The farmer-owned juice brand cooperative is introducing three innovations across multiple formats and occasions to give the cranberry its time to shine.
Ocean Spray is launching Cranberry Cider, a juice made with cranberry and apple flavors along with notes of cinnamon, clove and ginger. Jugs will be available online through Amazon and Walmart, and in select Walmart stores beginning in October.
The company is additionally expanding its dried cranberries lineup with sour apple-flavored craisins, which are available on Amazon beginning Oct. 5. The treats expand Ocean Spray’s sour collection, which already includes blueberry lemon and sour watermelon.
Ocean Spray is additionally bringing a cranberry spread to the U.S. for the fall, inspired by an offering already popular in the U.K. The spread will be available at select retailers including Hy-Vee and Publix.
The company is hoping the new offerings will expand cranberries’ relevance beyond the Thanksgiving table.
“Cranberry has always been at the heart of who we are, and we're constantly exploring new ways to showcase its versatility,” Trinh Le, vice president of USA Branded at Ocean Spray, said in a statement. “This fall, we're giving consumers more ways than ever to enjoy cranberry, from a cozy seasonal sip and a bold new snack to a versatile spread that brings cranberry to even more occasions.”
The cranberry industry has been a major beneficiary of consumers seeking out minimally processed and better-for-you foods. Data from Grandview Research found that the global cranberry market was valued at $2.3 billion in 2026 and is projected to grow to $3.1 billion by 2030.
