Dive Brief:
- H.J. Heinz Co. has announced a new addition to its ketchup lineup: Sriracha ketchup, which will hit store shelves next month.
- According to Food Manufacturing, the new product "will still maintain the taste and consistency of the regular tomato ketchup, but include an added kick of spicy chili peppers and garlic flavors."
- The Sriracha flavor joins other Heinz varieties, including jalapeno, balsamic vinegar, and Tabasco.
Dive Insight:
Heinz is capitalizing on consumers' addiction to Sriracha, which has soared over the past few years. This is despite the condiment being involved in some very public arguments and a potential shortage last year. Food Dive mourned the potential loss of Sriracha in looking ahead at 2014, but luckily, that demise hasn't come just yet.
