Food poisoning hits Food Safety Summit attendees
- Health officials in Baltimore are investigating a possible food poisoning outbreak at a meeting aimed at promoting food safety.
- At least four people have told officials they became ill after eating a meal at the summit earlier this month.
- Some 1,500 safety experts from the industry and the government gathered at the Summit to share the best practices for food manufacturing and processing.
Well…that’s embarrassing. But let’s focus on the positive.
First, the good news is that this particular illness is not fatal.
Second, it’s unlikely that anything short of a deadly outbreak would attract as much attention to foodborne illnesses than food poisoning at a food safety event. And, that after all, is part of what a food safety event is supposed to accomplish.
