Dive Brief:
- Coca-Cola has teamed with the International Physics Centre in Bogota, Colombia, to create a machine that can chill drinks without using electricity.
- The so-called Bio Cooler operates by using two forms of power. First, the top of the Bio Cooler is covered with plants. When the plants are watered, evaporation cools the chamber. Second, energy from the sun is used to convert gas in the cooler into a liquid that chills what's inside the device.
- The designers believe the devices are the first step toward building similar machines that can be used to keep medicines and vaccines cool in heat-soaked regions of the developing world.
Dive Insight:
There's nothing like a cold drink on a hot day. And no doubt the Bio Cooler seems pretty cool to folks who live without electricity.
Certainly the folks at the Leo Burnett agency, which produced the video below, make it seem pretty cool.
