- Dole Food's David Murdock has pledged to donate $15 million a year to the David H. Murdoch Research Institute he founded. The institute, used by seven North Carolina schools, supports research in nutrition and life extension.
- Notre Dame University has announced it is creating the Donald R. Keough School of Global Affairs, named after the retired president and COO of Coca-Cola. The school will conduct research on peace, international development, and human rights. Keough and his wife have donated $30 million to the school.
