- PepsiCo is getting rid of jobs in Chicago, the headquarters city of its Quaker Oats brand.
- PepsiCo declined to say how many jobs are being eliminated. News reports put the number in excess of 100.
- PepsiCo, which has seen demand for its soft drinks fall, has pledged to trim some $8 billion in costs by 2019.
It's always tough to hear of layoffs. And there's a particular poignancy and reason for ire when, as happens every year, a company announces job cuts during the holiday season.
Regardless of the timing, the folks at PepsiCo's Chicago offices must be getting pretty tired of layoff news. The company fired 150 workers there just a few years ago. And the longtime veterans of Quaker will remember the 300 jobs lost back in 1994.
