Dive Insight:
A routine test by the FDA revealed the presence of Salmonella in one lot of Organic Basil, prompting Infinite Herbs to issue the recalls. Subsequent testing has not indicated any contamination in other lots. Though Salmonella is not necessary fatal, it's not something people should take chances with, as detailed in The 5 nastiest foodborne threats to consumers (and your bottom line). Just last month, 227,000 pounds of dried egg products had to be recalled because of Salmonella concerns.
