Mondelez to invest $130M in bakery ops

  • Mondelez International plans to invest over $130 million on new manufacturing capabilities at its bakery operations in Fair Lawn, N.J., and Richmond, Virginia.

  • Mondelez will shutter its iconic cookie factory in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to make way for the investment.

Dive Insight:

Mondelez plans to close its Philadelphia bakery because it produces few products and other plants are better-suited for the company's plans for the future. 

“This investment in our North American biscuit supply chain offers us an exciting opportunity to further improve the overall effectiveness, efficiency and the competitiveness of our manufacturing network, with a focus on driving big bets and accelerating growth for the biscuit category," said Cindy Waggoner, North America VP of Sales and Confection at Mondelez.
