- McDonald's announced it is getting rid of Heinz ketchup in its stores and is seeking new vendors.
- In June Heinz was sold to an investment consortium run by Berkshire Hathaway and 3G Capital. Burger King is also owned by 3G. A former Burger King CEO has been named chief executive of Heinz.

When we first heard the rumor that McDonald's might dump Heinz, we thought it a silly idea and suggested that cooler heads would prevail. We were wrong. Add to the long list of things we don't understand the following: the level of animosity among burger executives.
