Dive Brief:
- Kraft Foods Inc. will institute approximately 9% price hikes to its Maxwell House, Gevalia, McCafe, and Yuban K-Cup single-serve coffees, its first-time price rise for these products. This will start Dec. 28.
- The company had previously increased prices on certain coffee brands in June and July, along with other large U.S. roasters in that period, though not for single-serve.
- A spokeswoman for Kraft said the rising prices are because of price increases elsewhere in raw material sectors.
Dive Insight:
Reuters notes that K-Cups' maker, Keurig Green Mountain, increased its prices in early November. In its fourth fiscal quarter, that company noted a 22% boost of K-Cup sales. Perhaps Kraft also sees an opportunity here to improve declining sales.
