Dive Brief:
- The Food Marketing Institute, whose members run some 40,000 retail food stores in the U.S., has endorsed the food-safety and traceability systems of ReposiTrak.
- The move is major coup for ReposiTrak, powered by technology from supply-chain leader Park City Group and affiliated with health and safety consultants Leavitt Partners.
- FMI says it chose ReposiTrak because its traceability systems are "interoperable" and can work with any of the myriad traceability systems now in place at the nation's retailers.
Dive Insight:
The folks at ReposiTrak must be bouncing up and down in glee today. FMI's endorsement isn't the same as a government edict, but FMI has considerable weight in the food industry. And given how complex the food-safety world has become, and how confusing it can be when weighing various traceability systems, we'd expect that loads of retailers and distributors will sign on to ReposiTrack.
