Dive Brief:
- Archer Daniels Midland Co. is suing Syngenta regarding the selling of genetically engineered corn in the U.S. without Chinese import permission.
- This meant the product was not allowed in China in the past year. ADM did not reveal the exact number it alleges it lost, but a spokeswoman said "tens of millions of dollars in losses and added costs."
- ADM filed the suit in a Louisiana state court. Syngenta claims the lawsuit does not have clout.
Dive Insight:
Food Dive predicted the continuing lawsuits through the court system last month, and it looks like ADM is just one more in a long list of plaintiffs. Back in February, ADM said they would reject this corn strand. In unrelated ADM and China news, the company recently opened part of a food ingredient facility there.
