Companies that are increasing production, adding packaging lines and investing in automation are finding water availability is increasingly becoming a business constraint. Aging municipal infrastructure, rising utility costs, population growth and increased scrutiny of industrial water use are changing how manufacturers think about using and reusing one of their most critical resources.
So important is the water issue, the EPA released on April 16, 2026, a revised Water Reuse Action Plan (WRAP 2.0). The directive of the program is to establish a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) decision-making framework for water reuse in food and beverage production facilities.
As water pressures continue to intensify for manufacturers, understanding these three factors can help determine both the feasibility and long-term value of a reuse strategy.

Modern reuse systems are designed around multiple layers of protection, including source water characterization, appropriate treatment, continuous monitoring, automated diversion of off-spec water and routine verification. These risk-based strategies closely align with HACCP principles already widely used in the food and beverage industry, helping manufacturers reuse water consistently to meet operational and regulatory requirements.
