With food manufacturers in the home stretch to remove PHOs, you may be testing a variety of fats and oils in your product reformulations. It may be time to consider switching to a premium, non-GMO oil like USA sunflower oil.
How will sunflower oil improve your product formulations?
Whether you are creating better-for-you snacks, “free-from” foods, or healthier bakery items, sun oil will not only meet your functional requirements, but it may also increase your sales. In fact, in a 2016 survey¹, 71 percent of consumers indicated that they consider sunflower oil healthier than other oils and 64 percent said they are interested in purchasing products made with sunflower oil.
Do you need an oil that will improve the shelf life of your products?
Since sunflower oil is high in monounsaturated fat and contains only a trace of Omega 3 polyunsaturated fat, it is more stable than many other oils and as a result it will provide a longer shelf life to many foods.
Are you looking for an oil that has a high heat point and a long fry life?
Studies show that sunflower oil is very stable and has a longer fry life than many other oils, including high oleic canola and even new oils such as high oleic soybean oil. Sunflower oil is a superior fry oil since it has only a trace of linolenic fatty acid and because of its high oleic fatty acid content. This fat profile gives it a longer fry life and a high smoke point - making it ideal for creating deep-fried or par-fried foods. In addition, there is less absorption of sun oil into the food in the fryer, therefore creating lighter tasting foods.
Do you need an oil with a neutral taste?
Perhaps you are creating a marinade, a dressing or snack food that has flavorful seasonings? Or you need a spray oil for fruits on top muffins or desserts to prevent mold growth and extend shelf life? If you are looking for an oil that does not overpower the flavor of other ingredients, then sunflower oil is an excellent solution, since it has a very neutral taste.
Would an oil with health benefits be beneficial to your formulation?
Sun oil is available in mid and high oleic formats and using sun oil as a partial substitute for the saturated fats in bakery items and other foods often results in foods with the same taste and texture, but a healthier nutrition profile.
