Dive Brief:
-
Munster, Ind., microbrewery Three Floyds Brewing will invest $7.5 million in an expansion of its facilities.
-
The planned expansion, from 30,000 square feet to 56,000 square feet, would begin this summer and comes as the company expects a five-year tax abatement from the town of Munster.
-
Three Floyds plans to add a new bottling and packaging line, warehouse and basement storage areas, a tasting room/carryout counter, an employee exercise room, a maintenance room, and a distillery for a range of spirits that would include high-end whiskeys.
Dive Insight:
Microbreweries continue to be a hot segment of the beer industry, and there's no denying Three Floyds' growing popularity. The company's Dark Lord, a Russian imperial stout, is released only one day every year at the brewery itself and has an entire festival dedicated to it. How this expansion helps it further the sort of consumer loyalty that lends itself to something like that, but we can only hope it means we'll be able to grab a Dark Lord twice a year.
