Dive Brief:
- Syngenta has dropped its lawsuit against Bunge over the grain trader's refusal to accept Syngenta's Viptera strain at its elevators.
- Bunge was one of the first companies to raise a red flag about Viptera, announcing in 2011 it wouldn't accept the GMO strain out of fear it would not be accepted by overseas markets.
- In 2013, China banned shipments of the strain, a move that led to lawsuits filed against Syngenta by Bunge rivals ADM and Cargill.
Dive Insight:
Syngenta would clearly like to put the whole Viptera lawsuit thing in the past. Bunge, apparently, is willing to move on too. And even China, which holds the power in this global game, is ready to turn the page on the issue.
At this rate, even ADM and Cargill may decide it's better to let bygones be bygones and go back to accepting and shipping corn grown from Syngenta's seeds.
