Dive Brief:
-
Nestlé is launching the first national line of frozen fruit bars that combine fruit and vegetable ingredients.
-
The “Fruit and Veggie bars,” will be available under the Dreyer Outshine label in flavors that extend beyond the standard fruit selections: Blueberry Medley, Tangerine Carrot, Apple and Greens, Peach Mango Medley, and Strawberry Rhubarb.
- Aside from the flavors, the bars have three major selling points: They are just 35-60 calories each, contain at least 25% vegetables from purees and juices, and deliver essential vitamins.
Dive Insight:
Nestle’s latest offering is another reflection of offering consumers healthier options for snacks. As Kerry Hopkins, Outshine Brand Manager, observes “By adding vegetables to our recipes in this new line, we have created distinct flavor profiles that are a tasty way to include vegetables in your diet.” Certainly, it has a great deal of appeal to people who want to get that recommended 5-servings-a-day without having to eat just plain fruits and vegetables.
