Dive Brief:
- Nestle is selling its PowerBar and Musashi sports-nutrition businesses to Post Holdings. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- The sale gives a boost to Post's energy bar and nutrition business, which now includes Premier Nutrition's Premier Protein and Joint Juice brands, and Dymatize Enterprises' Dymatize and Supreme brands.
- Nestle has been unloading brands at a rapid pace. The sale comes less than a month after it unloaded Givaudan and less than three months since it sold Jenny Craig.
Dive Insight:
This may have been the most widely anticipated sale in food history. As Nestle has begun divesting, it seemed to make a point of making sure everyone in the market knew that PowerBar was for sale. Company executives were leaking the news to the press as far back as September.
As for what's the next unit on the block, we'll put our money on the Davigel frozen foods business, which was being floated as available within minutes of the PowerBar sale.
