Dive Brief:
- Jacqueline Badger Mars, a co-owner of Mars Inc. and granddaughter to Franklin Clarence Mars, the company's founder, faces a reckless driving charge after a fatal car accident on Oct 4 left one woman dead in Aldie, Va.
- The misdemeanor charge comes after the Loudoun County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office in Virginia announced that it has concluded its investigation of the crash, which saw Mars' 2004 Porsche SUV cross over the middle of a road and collide with a minivan.
- Mars was reportedly served with a summons on Tuesday and has a hearing scheduled for 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 5.
Dive Insight:
As we noted earlier this month, Mars Inc. issued a statement about the accident, announcing that the company is "filled with sorrow for the loss of life." There really isn't much else that can be said until Mars arrives in court and the investigation's findings are explained. We'll watch this one as the story develops.
