Dive Brief:
- Kraft Foods Group has voluntarily recalled 1.2 million cases of its cottage cheese over concerns that the product may be spoiled.
- All of the products in question were manufactured at Kraft's plant in Tulare, CA. The brands recalled include Knudsen Cottage Cheese, Breakstone’s Cottage Cheese, Daily Chef Cottage Cheese, and Simply Kraft Cottage Cheese.
- Kraft said that the cheese had been stored improperly, which could lead to spoilage or foodborne illnesses.
Dive Insight:
Kudos to Kraft for deciding to recall the cheese, even though there was no evidence yet that the products had gone bad. Certainly that's the right move.
But it's also possible that pulling the trigger early on a recall is a tougher sell these days, particularly in the wake of the "false alarm" recall in Asia last year.
