Dive Brief:

- 72% of coffee drinkers like some form of cream in their coffee, and until now, high-fat dairy versions or sugar and soy-laden non-dairy products have dominated the half-and-half market, according to a news release.
- Califia Farms also announced the reformulation of its Almondmilk Creamers, adding an unsweetened version.
Dive Insight:
With its new product, Califia Farms is positioning itself out in front of an industry that has been slow to respond consumers’ wishes for alternatives to traditional non-dairy creamers.
Both the Better Half Creamer and Almondmilk Creamers are available in unsweetened versions containing 0 grams of sugar. Company officials say the new product conforms to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, released earlier this month, which recommend limiting added sugars to 10% of daily calories.
What's more, the Dietary Guidelines noted that moderate coffee drinking could reduce the risk of some diseases, which bodes well for combining the creamers with the company’s Concentrated Cold Brew Coffee product, creating a healthy "clean energy" drink.
