Savings priorities among the United States' largest metro area are not always the same, and Coupons.com attempts to keep tabs on habits every year with a set of rankings.
U.S. consumers had the chance to save more than $450 billion with the 305 billion coupons that were distributed in the country last year, according to Jeanette Pavini, a household savings expert at Coupons.com.
The survey covered 25 cities, and Atlanta came out on top with its residents four times more likely than the average American urbanite to print coupons or save them to a store loyalty program. Sacramento made big frugality gains, however, reaching the No. 9 spot after not showing up in the top 25 one year ago.
Meanwhile, Florida had two cities show up in the top five. Here are the United States' 10 most frugal metro areas, according the 2012 Coupons.com Savings Index:
- Atlanta
- Orlando
- Tampa
- Nashville
- Charlotte
- Kansas City
- Boston
- Cleveland
- Sacramento
- St. Louis
