As the desire for clean ingredients accelerates, the demand to reduce added sugars and other ingredients that provide stability, texture, flavoring and shelf life, has many food industry professionals reformulating their products.
If you are creating products that include oils or other fats, now is the time to consider switching to USA sunflower oil – a non-GMO, trans fat free oil, that is readily available in both mid oleic and high oleic formats.
Sunflower oil is a premium oil that has several benefits, making it ideal for a variety of food formulations. So whether you are creating better-for-you snacks, “free-from” foods, or healthier bakery items, sun oil will not only meet your functional requirements, but it may also increase your sales. In fact, in a 2016 survey1, 71 percent of consumers indicated that they consider sunflower oil healthier than other oils and 64 percent said they are interested in purchasing products made with sunflower oil.
Are you looking for a replacement for PHOs?
Research shows that high oleic sunflower oil can improve the health profile of bakery items such as cookies, croissants, muffins and crackers. Using sun oil as a partial substitute for the saturated fats in these bakery items, resulted in foods with the same taste and texture, but a healthier ingredient deck.
Do you need an oil that will improve the shelf life of your product?
Since sunflower oil is high in monounsaturated fat and contains only a trace of Omega 3 polyunsaturated fat, it is more stable than many other oils and therefore will provide a longer shelf life to snack foods, meat rubs, sauces and dressings, protein bars and vegan foods.
Are you looking for an oil that has a high heat point and a long fry life?
Sunflower oil is a superior fry oil since it has only a trace of linolenic fatty acid and because of its high oleic fatty acid content. This composition gives it a longer fry life and a high smoke point - making it ideal for creating deep-fried or par-fried foods. There is less absorption of sun oil into the food in the fryer, therefore creating lighter tasting foods. Studies shows that sunflower oil is very stable and has a longer fry life than many other oils, including high oleic canola and even new oils such as high oleic soybean oil.
Do you need an oil with a neutral taste?
Perhaps you are creating a snack food with flavorful seasonings, or you need a spray oil for dried fruits or the top of breads to prevent mold growth and to extend shelf life. If you are looking for an oil that does not overpower the flavor of other ingredients, then sunflower oil is an excellent solution, since it is tasteless.
