Eggo® Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles Win ChefsBest Best Taste Award

ChefsBest Reignites Partnership with Kellogg’s; Recognizes Eggo® as Best Tasting Product in Whole Wheat/Multigrain Frozen Waffles Category

SAN DIEGO, August 28, 2018 - ChefsBest<>, a San Diego-based company that guides consumers to high quality foods in a category, announced today that after testing by a panel of executive-level chefs it has awarded Kellogg's Eggo® Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles its Best Taste Award. The Eggo® Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles were recognized by ChefsBest's Certified Master Tasters for its unique delivery of toasted notes, buttery flavor and crisp initial bite.

ChefsBest and its highly-trained Certified Master Tasters have defined the quality for frozen whole wheat/multigrain waffles to have notes of toasted wheat, vanilla, cinnamon, and brown sugar, along with a buttery aroma and flavor. Additionally, products should be sweet with low bitter intensity, kicking off with a crispy bite and finishing with an airy and moist texture. Delivering on all these requirements and more, Kellogg's earned the ChefsBest Best Taste Award, allowing them to claim that the Eggo Nutri-Grain Frozen Waffles are the highest rated among leading brands in this category, and can now add the coveted ChefsBest gold medallion to the product's packaging and marketing. Additionally, the award substantiates the ability to make advertising claims such as “Best Tasting” and “Highest Quality”.

“Our Eggo® Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles are a delicious option for waffle lovers and we’re thrilled that ChefsBest awarded us the top ranking with the ChefsBest Best Taste Award,” said Dick Podiak, Kellogg’s Vice President, Marketing and Innovation of Frozen Foods. “Eggo waffles, including our Nutri-Grain variety, with their warm crispy outside and fluffy buttery insides are simply too good not to share and that’s exactly what we hope our consumers will do.”

ChefsBest uses a rigorous sensory evaluation process, known as SAQA(r) (Sensory Attribute Quality Analysis), and a panel of executive-level chefs trained as Master Tasters to identify award-winning food and beverage products. As part of ChefsBest's proprietary process that determines qualification for a ChefsBest medallion, Certified Master Tasters blindly evaluate products against a quality definition. The Master Tasters identify and measure the sensory experience across the five modalities of appearance, aroma, taste, flavor and texture and determine the impact of each attribute on the overall quality. At the end of the evaluation, the data from the Master Tasters is analyzed and award qualification is determined.

“With national, leading brands competing in this category, earning the ChefsBest Best Taste Award comes at no easy feat," said Janet Williams, Sensory Director at ChefsBest. "Recognition for this award significantly differentiates Eggo® Nutri-Grain Whole Wheat Waffles from its competitors, and the gold medallion lets consumers know this product was rated highest in overall quality and is best tasting.”

Compared to the extreme time and monetary costs of consumer research, the value of ChefsBest is the efficient path to the data required for making claims like "Award Winning Taste" or "America's Best". Leveraging a ChefsBest award and ad claims ultimately leads to more sales, drives brand switching, and enables brands the ability to justify a price premium. A recent study determined 67 percent of consumers are more likely to purchase a ChefsBest award-winning product than one without the ChefsBest medallion on-pack. According to an A/B test, digital ads with the ChefsBest medallion on them experienced a 20 percent higher click-through rate than ads without the award present. The ChefsBest medallion is on millions of packages consumers place in their grocery carts.

Two of ChefsBest's flagship awards include the Best Taste and Excellence Awards. The Best Taste Award is earned by only one national brand in each product category, signifying to both consumers and buyers that this product has secured the distinction as best tasting. When licensed, the Excellence Award allows a product to claim it meets or surpasses quality standards established by independent, professional chefs.
