Dive Brief:
- Unilever acquired Talenti Gelato & Sorbetto in an effort to further develop its space in the frozen food market, and in turn combat slow growth in its more popular food brands, according to Bloomberg. Unilever did not reveal the terms of the deal.
- "The acquisition widens Unilever’s position in the fast-growing gelato market with its artisanal offerings and its clear, distinct and recyclable packaging," President of Unilever North America Kees Kruythoff said.
- Bloomberg also notes Unilever's chief executive officer since 2009, Paul Polman, has been getting rid of brands like Ragu and Skippy as its food department has struggled.
Dive Insight:
Unilever has certainly seen better days in the press as of late, and it looks like the company's newest acquisition will at least garner a different kind of attention for a bit.
