Dive Brief:
- Private-label food manufacturer Treehouse Foods will pay $860 million to buy Flagstone Foods, based in St. Paul, MN.
- Flagstone is the nation's largest maker of fruit and nut snacks for store brands.
- The purchase comes just weeks after Treehouse announced the $150 million purchase of Protenergy Natural Foods.
Dive Insight:
Treehouse is on a bit of a shopping spree these days. The Flagstone and Protenergy deals combined mean the private-label company has spent more than $1 billion on acquisitions in roughly 11 weeks.
No doubt these deals make some sense. And given the problems that ConAgra has had digesting private-label rival Ralcorp, it's certainly possible that Treehouse will be back in the market again soon ... buying parts of Ralcorp.
