Dive Brief:
- CBS Consumer Products and The Federation of Beer are planning a new Star Trek-branded beer, Klingon Warnog–the first Star Trek beer in the U.S.
- It is to be brewed by Tin Man Brewing Company of Evansville, Indiana.
- The beer's flavor draws from blending rye malt with a traditional clove character, creating what CBS calls "a bold beer suited for the harsh Klingon lifestyle."
Dive Insight:
The beer will be previewed at the Nightclub & Bar Show in Las Vegas on March 25, before being released across the U.S. and Canada later this year. The Federation of Beer already provides Canada with Vulcan Ale. As it explains, the venture began in "the small town of Vulcan, Alta., Canada, pop. 1,836 (the official Star Trek capital of Canada)." It identifies its "Prime Directive" as follows: "to produce high quality Craft Beer to honour Gene Roddenberry's legacy, and to unite both Star Trek and Craft Beer fans." Certainly, craft beer is on the rise, and we see that it does indeed unite fans across national boundaries, and, possibly even across planetary species.
