Dive Brief:
- Marcella Hazan, author of "The Essentials of Italian Cooking" passed away Sunday. Tributes to her flooded the Internet and social media as news of her death spread. Here's a blog post on The Guardian. Here's one from the Washington Post.
- Hazan has a particular gift that is unique among cookbook authors -- her instructions were precise and easy to follow. The result is that thousands of otherwise inept cooks became talented chefs when following her recipes.
- Although her work was translated into several languages, it was written in English. Her deliberate and authoritative style, rendered into English by her husband, resonated with English speakers, and she is credited with introducing classic Italian cooking to generations of American and British households.
Dive Insight:
This weekend we'll pull our sauce-stained version of Hazan's "Essentials" off the shelf and make something the exact way she tells us too. We can think of no finer tribute.
