- Post Holdings, Inc. announced that one of the third-party contracted egg suppliers for its Michael Foods Group segment has reported a bird flu contamination.
- On the Iowa-based farm were about 5.5 million birds, a total of 10% of the company's egg supply.
- Post is currently analyzing whether this contamination will have any financial effects.
Besides the poultry farmers themselves, Post isn't the only business being affected by the rapid spread of bird flu. Hormel Foods' Jennie-O Turkey Store brand has suffered significantly from the outbreaks, as at least 29 of its suppliers have reported contamination, including 14 farms that are company-owned.
Minnesota has already declared a state of emergency due to the rampant cases of bird flu reported on turkey farms in the state. Iowa has been one of the hardest hit targets as of late with several chicken farms falling to the H5N2 virus as well.
