PepsiCo is expanding its U.S. presence in refrigerated and fresh offerings with gazpacho.
Alvalle, a Mediterranean-style gazpacho made with sun-ripened tomatoes, cucumber, peppers and extra-virgin olive oil. It is being sold at select Whole Foods stores across the U.S.
Alvalle isn’t a new offering for PepsiCo. It is already sold in Spain, the U.K., Belgium, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden and Russia.
The launch of Alvalle in the U.S. comes as consumers increasingly look for simple, recognizable ingredients. It also represents an effort by PepsiCo to expand in deli and other fresh sections of the grocery store that have seen rising traffic.
In 2025, trips to the perimeter of the store grew 15% faster than visits to the center aisles where PepsiCo typically sells its snacks and beverages, according to Numerator data cited by the CPG giant. Alvalle is targeted at small meals, as a snack or as a complement to a meal.
“Alvalle meets a very real consumer need — people want food made from recognizable ingredients that fits into their everyday lives,” Pol Codina, senior vice president and general manager of food ventures at PepsiCo, said in a statement. “As we expand our portfolio, we are focused on bringing more real, ingredient-forward foods into everyday eating occasions.”
The soup brand was founded in Murcia, Spain, in 1991 and acquired by PepsiCo eight years later. Today, Alvalle is the top refrigerated branded gazpacho category in Spain, with a 17% market share, PepsiCo said, citing Nielsen data.
Alvalle's U.S. launch not only expands PepsiCo’s presence in the refrigerated perimeter, but it also broadens the company’s fresh business and complements its core snack business, best known for brands such as Doritos, Cheetos and Sun Chips.
PepsiCo has been gradually expanding into fresh, meal-adjacent foods as well as the growing chilled category. In 2024, it purchased the remaining half of Sabra and Obela dip and spread brands that it didn’t already own. And next week, Tostitos guacamole will be hitting store shelves in the U.S.
Together, brands like Sabra, Tostitos guacamole and Alvalle strengthen PepsiCo’s opportunity to serve consumers across a broader range of eating occasions.
“The way people eat continues to evolve, and we're seeing growing demand for foods that combine convenience, quality and great taste,” Marisa Perez, senior vice president and general manager of fresh experiences portfolio at PepsiCo Foods U.S., said in an emailed statement.
