Ghirardelli’s is going beyond chocolate and taking aim at another sweets category — cookies.
The 174-year-old chocolate giant is introducing packaged cookies in classic chocolate chip and double chocolate chip, the latter of which has Ghirardelli chocolate chips as its top ingredient.
“Entering the cookie category marks an exciting new chapter for Ghirardelli and an important step in how we continue to grow the brand and be a part of consumers’ lives,” Bobby Oliver, vice president and head of marketing at Ghirardelli Chocolate Company, said in a statement.
The cookies are available on Ghirardelli’s website and will debut at Kroger beginning Oct. 11. The line will expand to Walmart on Oct. 24 before rolling out to additional retailers nationwide in January.
Ghirardelli will immediately find itself going up against premium cookie brands on the market, such as Mondelēz International’s Tate’s and Ferrero’s Famous Amos.
Sales in the U.S. cookie space are expected to slow 1.2% to nearly $19 billion in 2026 due to pressure on consumer spending and snacking frequency, according to Mintel.
Ghirardelli, which is owned by Switzerland-based Lindt & Sprüngli, posted double-digit sales growth and added more than a million new households in 2025, led by the brand's baking and confections offerings. In addition to chocolate, Ghirardelli also sells brownie mixes and refrigerated cookie dough.
“2025 was a landmark year for Ghirardelli, as the brand continued to lead the premiumization of home baking in North America,” Lindt & Sprüngli noted in its annual report.
Ghirardelli, which traces its roots to San Francisco, topped more than $1 billion in revenue last year for the first time, according to a LinkedIn post by the brand’s CEO.
