Dive Insight:
ConAgra CEO Sean Connolly hinted at a shareholders' meeting last week that while Omaha, NE, will continue to play a sizable role for ConAgra, the company may be boosting its presence in Chicago, and layoffs in Omaha are likely if the move is finalized.
The company hasn't officially signed a lease for real estate in Chicago, but "sources close to the deal say Gov. Bruce Rauner has signed off on tax incentives the firm is seeking to move corporate staff here from Omaha, with a formal announcement expected later this week," Crain's Chicago Business reported.
ConAgra is focusing on its consumer brands as it moves away from its private brands, which led to a net loss of $1.24 billion for the company in its recent earnings report, due to the costs of reclassifying private brands as discontinued operations.
In other company news, it's also introduced a humorous TV and online marketing campaign for Slim Jim featuring an Amish buggy driver and a series of sketches on Funny or Die.
