Dive Brief:
- Coca-Cola Amatil's ban on selling beer in Australia ends Dec. 17, and Group Managing Director Terry Davis says the company's reentry into the market is a "no-brainer."
- CCA was barred from selling beer in the country for two years following the 2011 purchase of its share of a joint venture when SAB Miller acquired Fosters.
- Davis says the company is well-positioned to become a third major player in the Australian market due to its technology platform and an extensive distribution network with pubs and bottle shops.
Dive Insight:
As Davis describes it, the Australian beer market is essentially a duopoly controlled by Lion, owner of Tooheys, and Fosters, owner of Carlton United. The company plans to make and sell international beers, and has distribution rights for Molson Coors, Samuel Adams and others.
