Dive Brief:
- High Liner Foods, a Canadian-based trader in frozen fish, has acquired Florida-based Atlantic Trading Co. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
- The purchase gives High Liner control of a number of important retailer-supply contracts and the C. Wirthy & Co. brand of salmon sold at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club stores.
- High Liner has become a major player in the North American fish industry following a number of acquisitions, notably Viking Seafoods in 2010 and American Pride last year.

Suddenly there seems to be a great deal of M&A activity related to salmon. Atlantic Trading is a major buyer of salmon from both Chile and Norway. And last month, Mitsubishi bought one of the biggest salmon producers in those nations: Cermaq.
