Dive Brief:
- Yoplait has revamped the packaging for its kids-focused brand, seeking to play up the health benefits of its yogurt.
- Messaging on the packaging includes the phrases "no high-fructose corn syrup" and "no articficial colors, flavors or sweeteners."
- Yoplait has also altered the formula for Go-Gurt -- cutting 1 gram of sugar and reducing calories by about 14 percent.
- Unchanged is the delivery mechanism: Yoplait remains a yogurt-in-a-tube product aimed at making consumption fun for kids.
Dive Insight:
The packaging revamp comes amid the continuing shakeup of the yogurt space by the surge in sales of Greek-style blends, Rival Dannon has had some success in catching up with Chobani and other newcomers in the Greek category. Yoplait, however, has stumbled.
But we wouldn't count Yoplait out. We're just old enough to remember when Yoplait shook up the yogurt aisle with its pre-stirred blend -- a clear alternative to the "fruit on the bottom" offerings of Dannon. The change in Go-Gurt packaging may represent the start of a new wave in Yoplait innovation.
