Dive Brief:
- Anheuser Busch InBev, owner of the Budweiser brand, has purchased a brewery called Samson in the Czech city of Ceske Budejovice, also known as Budweis.
- The purchase is aimed at helping AB win a years-long battle with another brewer in that city over the use of the trademark "Budweiser."
- AB, based in Belgium, already owns the parent company of Samson.
Dive Insight:
It's uncertain if AB's move will actually help it win any of the 50 or so trademark disputes it has with Budejovicky Budvar, which is also based in Budweis.
But given the sort of advertising that AB does for Budweiser here in the States, perhaps the people of the Czech Republic should expect a series of patriotic commercials featuring their red, white and blue flag, eagle, models in bikinis, and motorcycles to air in the future.
