Dive Brief:
- ConAgra Foods is recalling 5,200 cases of Healthy Choice Chicken with Rice Microwaveable Bowl Soup.
- The recall is due to the soups being misbranded, as they might actually contain Healthy Choice Chicken Noodle Soup. As such, they may also contain undeclared allergens because the noodles are formulated with wheat and egg, neither of which are declared on the incorrect label.
- The soups in question were produced December 16, 2013, and are 14-oz (397g) with a Best By date of "JUN092015" on the bowl. They were distributed at retail outlets nationwide, as well as the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, and Puerto Rico.
Dive Insight:
Consumers initially discovered this issue, and it probably goes without saying that at least a few — especially those with egg or wheat allergies — weren't amused. There haven't been any reports yet of adverse allergic reactions stemming from the mix-up, but this is also the second recall stemming from a ConAgra packing error in the last six months: Late in August, the company recalled Kroger-branded peanut butter cup cookie dough that was packaged as chocolate chip cookie dough.
