Dive Brief:
- Keurig Green Mountain announced its newest countertop drinks device, the Keurig Kold, which will make cold carbonated and noncarbonated beverages using pod technology.
- Keurig will offer an array of cold drink pods, including products from Coca-Cola Co. and Dr Pepper Snapple Group as well as its own proprietary brands, which the company recently announced as well.
- Keurig Kold does not require CO2 canisters to prepare carbonated drinks, and beverages will be chilled to 38 degrees Fahrenheit. The machine is expected to launch in fall 2015.
Dive Insight:
It came as no surprise that Coca-Cola products would be among some of the first to be offered with Keurig Kold, as Coca-Cola owns a 16% stake in the company and helped create this machine. Last month, Keurig and Dr Pepper Snapple signed a deal for its products to be used with the Keurig Kold as well.
What about Pepsi products? Pepsi pursued performing a small-scale test with SodaStream instead, announced last October, though it's a bit unclear as to what the future holds there.
