Dive Brief:
- Kellogg Co.'s Kashi has agreed to a $3.99 million settlement for a false advertising class action lawsuit in Florida.
- Kashi's products contained genetically-modified ingredients, which the plaintiffs reasoned should not be in foods labeled "all-natural."
- According to Law360, "The Kellogg Co. unit agreed to fully reimburse class members who provide receipts and pay up to $27.50 to members who don’t show proof of purchase for Kashi GOLEAN Crunch! cereal or other products, including a number of granola and protein bars, while also agreeing to amend its labels."
Dive Insight:
"All-natural" and other similar lawsuits are increasingly common as more consumers are looking for healthier food options and more transparency from food companies. Processed foods companies in particular have come under fire as of late. As the consumer health trend continues, these lawsuits are unlikely to let up anytime soon.
