Jason Robertson will join a panel of food sector professionals to discuss rapid changes in the food industry at the 12th annual KC SmartPort Annual Industry Briefing, KC Delivers – Hub for Food Logistics.
Topics covered by the keynote and panel speakers include food production and the technologies used, how consumers buy food, as well as food distribution and delivery in an on-demand world.
Kansas City has more than 200 food manufacturers generating $9.4 billion and employing more than 100,000 people, according to the Kansas City Area Development Council (KCADC).
"The level of innovation in the food industry today is impressive," explains Robertson. "Food processors are being challenged to develop new solutions and products to meet increasing consumer demand in a race to market. It’s exciting to watch these innovative products emerge with the support of our universities, research facilities and processors.”
The region offers logistical solutions to consumer demand, adding to the area’s allure. From Kansas City, distribution centers and manufacturing plants can reach 85% of the continental U.S. population in two days by truck and almost 100% in three days, according to KCADC.
“We’re seeing a growing number of food processors consider sites in the midwest to tackle logistics challenges,” adds Robertson. “With shipping costs on the rise and demand for trucks outpacing available freight volumes, food processors are seeking centralized locations to protect their overall earnings.”
