According to the report "World: Mineral Waters And Aerated Waters - Market Report. Analysis and Forecast to 2025", recently published by IndexBox, in 2016 the amount of bottled water exported worldwide totaled 729M tonnes, going down by -18.6% against the previous year level. Overall, bottled water exports continue to indicate a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, an increase of 17% against the previous year level. In that year, global bottled water exports attained its maximum volume of 921M tonnes. From 2012 to 2016, growth of global bottled water exports stood at a somewhat lower level.
In value terms, bottled water exports amounted to $3.5B in 2016. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the period from 2007 to 2016; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. Global bottled water export peaked of $3.6B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

Bottled Water Exports By Country
China (699M tonnes) dominates in bottled water exports structure, accounting for 699M tonnes, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2016. Czech Republic, Germany, Russia, and France countries occupied the negligible share of total exports.
From 2007 to 2016, average annual rates of growth with regard to bottled water exports from China stood at -1.2%. At the same time, Czech Republic (+2.6%), and Germany (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Czech Republic emerged as the fastest growing importer/exporter in the world, with a CAGR of +2.6% from 2007-2016. By contrast, France (-2.1%), and Russia (-16.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (11%), and Russia (3%) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, France ($907M), China ($674M) and Germany ($115M) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, with a combined 48% share of global exports.
China (+9.5% per year) had the highest rates of growth with regard to the bottled water exports, in terms of the main exporting countries, over the last 9 year period, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Bottled Water Export Prices By Country
The average bottled water export price stood at $5 per tonne in 2016, picking up by 25% against the previous year. Overall, it indicated a strong growth from 2007 to 2016: the export price value increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, bottled water export price increased by +66.7% against its level of 2007. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008, when export increased by 33% y-o-y. Global bottled water export peaked in 2016, and is expected to retain its growth in the near future.
Export prices varied noticeably by country of destination. the country with the highest export prices was France ($224 per tonne), while China ($1 per tonne) was among the lowest.
From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of bottled water export prices was attained by Global (+5.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
