Dive Brief:
- A national recall of stone fruit from Wawona Packing in the U.S. has expanded to Canada, as concerns of a possible listeria outbreak grow.
- California-based Wawona has recalled six weeks of shipments of peaches, plums, nectarines, and pluots following the detection of listeria on peaches the company shipped to Australia.
- The list of retailers affected by the recall is extensive, including Trader Joe's, Costco, Sam's Club, Wegman's, and BJ's.
Dive Insight:
As spooky as this recall is becoming, it's worth noting that listeria has not been detected on fruit outside of Australia. Perhaps this will turn out to be nothing more than a false alarm. (Although the industry has seen how damaging even a false alarm can be.)
