Dive Brief:
- US Foods announced that chief merchandising officer Pietro Satriano will be the company's new president and CEO, effective July 13.
- Satriano will replace John Lederer, who will now serve in an advisory role to the company and its board of directors.
- The appointment comes less than two weeks after US Foods' proposed merger with Sysco fell through, when FTC regulators challenged the merger and won a temporary injunction to block the merger, after which Sysco pulled the plug.
Dive Insight:
Just earlier this month, US Foods announced it would relaunch the company via its "Just Taking Off" campaign, and Satriano has been chosen to lead. Ed Liddy, chairman of US Foods' board of directors, said of the new appointment, "Pietro is a proven leader whose business experience and strategic vision will be perfect for this next phase of US Foods’ evolution," according to Food Business News.
