Dive Brief:
- Tyson Foods, Inc. announced that it will close its poultry plant in Buena Vista, GA, at the end of May and shut down the company's third shift at its facility in Dawson, GA as of April 10.
- According to a press release, Tyson is closing the Buena Vista plant due to several factors, including "changing product needs, the age of the facility and the prohibitive cost of its renovation."
- The moves affect about 190 people at the Buena Vista plant and about 70 people at the Dawson facility.

Noel White, president of Poultry for Tyson Foods, said in a press release, “Because these changes affect our team members and their families, it was a very tough decision. Our business needs have changed in southern Georgia, so after a great deal of consideration, we’ve decided to take these steps in order to best serve our customers.”
Conversely, in January, Tyson announced that it would expand operations at a Vienna, GA, facility while shifting the focus of business there to fresh tray-pack chicken and adding more than 700 jobs.
