Dive Brief:
- Tetra Pak has manufactured a line of hot-melt adhesives and lubricants to be used with its proprietary filling machines.
- The adhesives will "offer improved bonding, lower adhesive consumption and reduced maintenance costs for cap, straw and secondary packaging applications," Food Safety Magazine reported.
- Tetra Pak hopes that its product will improve overall operational performance to make the industry more efficient and cost effective while helping customers make the most of their machines.
Dive Insight:
Tetra Pak developed the products in collaboration with its partner, adhesive producer Henkel, and successfully tested them at Al Buheira Lacnor Dairies LLP (Lacnor), a leader in fruit juice and dairy in the United Arab Emirates. Reported statistics match the excitement Tetra Pak has for its new product line.
Alfred Fernandes, production manager at Lacnor, said, "During the two month trial, we saw a 49 percent reduction in maintenance costs and our total consumption of hot melt adhesive dropped by 37 percent. These results would translate into annual savings of more than $100,000 across all our packaging lines, significantly offsetting the additional cost of the new adhesive."
