Dive Brief:
- In February, Nabisco will release two new limited edition Oreo varieties: marshmallow crispy and cookie dough.
- Marshmallow crispy Oreos will feature a marshmallow-flavored filling with crisped rice bits between Golden Oreo wafers, while cookie dough Oreos will see dough-flavored filling with tiny chocolate chips nestled between standard chocolate wafers.
- As one might imagine, the new flavors impact the recommended serving size. With an increase from the standard 53.3 calories and 4.6 grams of sugar to 80 calories and 6.5 or 6 grams of sugar, the recommended serving size drops from three to only two.
Dive Insight:
If you didn't think last year's watermelon Oreos were a bit of a stretch, Nabisco is out to prove you wrong. While we like Oreos, cookie dough, and Rice Krispy treats independently, we're not convinced that there's no such thing as too much of a good thing.
Still, we're curious. And Oreo is running an ad during Sunday's Grammy Awards that will contain a hashtag for users to tweet, giving them the opportunity to receive a shipment of the new flavors for free. Come February, though, they'll be available at Walmart, Target, and other major retailers until they're gone.
